In these current times, it is our responsibility to provide a safety net for life preservation. The need has been slowly building since the 9/11 tragedy in 2001, including chemical spills, train derailments, factory fires, severe weather, and mass shootings. These tragedies highlighted the importance of unified emergency forces communications, including in-building communications, especially during large-scale emergencies.


Bass United offers all the components required for design, installation and certification of the Emergency Radio Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES): signal boosters/ Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA), batteries and battery enclosures, donor antennas, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), coaxial cables, connectors and lighting arrestors, power dividers and hybrid couplers and design services. Our qualified specialist will assess specific building's needs with an onsite evaluation to determine if a BDA/DAS system would be required. Each installation requires an evaluation to customize the requirements for an individual building.

If a building has “dead zones” for public safety radio signals, they must install a BDA system. The new codes will require buildings to be verified and in compliance by 2025. General contractors, project managers, and building owners' representatives must be aware that many jurisdictions now require NFPA, Florida Fire Prevention Code, or IFC compliant public safety and emergency responder coverage, as a prerequisite for obtaining a certificate of occupancy. Many public safety organizations are beginning to realize that the BDA systems are just as essential as smoke and fire alarms, and sprinkler systems. This communication is not only beneficial to public safety workers, but also to the building's occupants for fast and accurate response.

Why we need BDA

Emergency Radio Communication Enhancement Systems (ERCES) were first introduced in the 2009 International Building Code. The ERCES requirement was to address the performance of emergency responders' portable radios inside buildings because building construction, building size, construction features, and other elements can absorb or block radio communications. If a building does not meet the required signal strength (-95dBm), the only effective solution is the installation of a signal booster (BDA).

 

Signal Boosters/Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA)

Gamewell-FCI Class B BDAs are high gain, high power band-selective signal boosters/bi-directional amplifiers that can be designed and customized to meet all public safety frequency band ranges.
